West Brom to bid 5m for Jarvis
Silly season starting soon and this may have been done before as it is 2 days old.

I thought we paid more for him??

West Ham United winger Matt Jarvis is once again being targeted by West Bromwich Albion.

West Ham United splashed the cash this summer, bringing in the likes of Aaron Cresswell, Alex Song, Cheikhou Kouyate, Mauro Zarate, Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia - and so far, results have been impressive.

Yet one of the biggest changes for the Hammers was manager Sam Allardyce switching from the 4-4-1-1 system of last season to a new, vibrant 4-1-2-1-2 diamond, which has featured far more flair and pace.

As West Ham's base formation, the use of wingers is becoming less important. Stewart Downing has reinvented himself as an attacking midfielder, but the same can't really be said of Matt Jarvis.

A £7m signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2012, Jarvis was previously important for Allardyce, but has started just one Premier League game this season.

During the summer, West Brom were linked with a move to sign Jarvis, and with the Baggies struggling and Jarvis out of the picture at Upton Park, reports now suggest that another move could be on the cards.

The Daily Mail report that West Brom are willing to pay £5m to bring Jarvis to The Hawthorns in January, but should West Ham take a £2m loss on the former England international?

At 28, Jarvis isn't going to realistically get better, and with central midfielders now more important in Allardyce's new system, Jarvis just isn't as vital to the plans anymore.

In fact, £5m may actually be a great fee for West Ham, and that money could help keep Winston Reid at the club, or bring in a new central midfielder or striker.

Taking a loss on a player after just two and a half years would be frustrating, but Jarvis is arguably worth even less than £5m at this stage in his career - and the Hammers should snap West Brom's hand off if they offer such a fee.

I'm with mentor

I love Morgan, and would love to see him given another year or two. I do feel a little for Jarvis - he's been stop start with injuries and I don't think Sam used him or downing properly out wide (especially in the wrong flanks) but apart from a brief spell to begin with, Jarvis has been very disappointing. I'd take this, but only if the money is reinvested - we can't go depleting our squad and bit filling the gaps. I'd love to see us go for Redmond at Norwich.

Sell him and give the 5 or 7mill straight to Song as a lump sum & ask him to sign a 5 year contract with a payrise of 10% each year on his current weekly wage.

Simple.

Get rid not the worst player but we have moved past and we will be adding a new player to compliment Amalfitano sometime soon. Need to fuck off him and Vaz Te.

I would.5 Mill excellent. But he is the only one I would move on.Remember we are going to be 3 players light In January so we need to keep a strong squad.Thats why I would keep Reid until the Summer, better get zilch and finish in Europe than 2-3 mill and risk losing European qualification.

Re: West Brom to bid 5m for Jarvis
Before this season, I was bracketing Jarvis and Downing together as massive disappointments.

Having been pleasantly surprised by Downing showing himself to be the brilliant player he has been recently, I thought there was a chance the real Jarvis might emerge too.

But maybe we've seen the real Jarvis all along

Re: West Brom to bid 5m for Jarvis
I would bite their hand off for £5million

West Brom are currently in turmoil after Dan Ashworth left to help the F.A and since they have appointed Irvine as manager and signed a few dodgy players...

Jarvis is peripheral for us at best and I'm sure we could find a much better replacement...his goal average and assist average has been crimanally poor - considering his transfer fee and wages

Get rid

Why do we risk getting nothing for Jarvis in the summer?

SullyHammer 1:06 Tue Dec 9
Re: West Brom to bid 5m for Jarvis
At this stage we should try to get some cash even if it's £5m as we risk getting nada come the end of the season.

So add that £5m to anything we get in the Jan window with the sales from any dross we've managed to get rid of and hopefully get a CB in on loan (not Roger fucking Johnson!) to cover injuries to Collins and Tompkins.

Take it!

Yes plus sell VazTe, Cole, Morrison (if anyone wants him) & put the money towards another CH to replace Reid (almost certainly off in the window or the summer) or towards the Song fund!
